PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading device and an image forming device having excellent convenience for users while preventing occurrence of jamming on a document conveying passage at the time before conveying documents. SOLUTION: A multi-functional machine 1 has an automatic document conveying device 30. The automatic document conveying device 30 conveys documents set on a document tray 40 to a discharged document storage part 50 via a reading position R by a document conveying mechanism unit 60. When passing the reading position R, the multi-functional machine 1 reads an image of the document by a scanning unit 15. The document tray 40 is freely turnably and pivotally supported by a tray turning shaft 41, and an upstream side end is vertically movable. A control unit 20 detects that the documents of the predetermined amount are set on the document tray 40 by a light shielding unit 43 formed on the upstream side end of the document tray 40 and a tray sensor 42, and executes the document reading prohibition processing (S6).
