Zusammenfassung: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic EL element that can change in chromaticity when necessary with a simple structure, and is improved in light emission efficiency. SOLUTION: The organic EL element includes: a substrate 1 which is rectangular in plan view; a first electrode 2 which is formed on one surface side of the substrate 1 and rectangular in plan view; a second electrode 4 which is on the opposite side of the first electrode 2 from the substrate 1 and faces the first electrode 2; and a light emitting layer 3 which is provided between the first electrode 2 and second electrode 4 and rectangular in plan view. The first electrode 2 and second electrode 4 constitute a pair of electrodes. Material components of the light emitting layer 3 are changed so that the chromaticity continuously varies during light emission in an in-plane direction orthogonal to the thickness direction of the light emitting layer 3, an insulating film 5 sections the light emitting layer 3 into a plurality of plane-shaped light emitting areas 3a, 3b and 3c in the in-plane direction, and the second electrode 4 as one of the pair of electrodes is provided independently for each of the light emitting areas 3a, 3b and 3c.
