THERMAL TRANSFER SHEET AND INK RIBBON

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal transfer sheet by which a more excellent picture quality can be obtained by increasing the releasability of a protective layer while imparting an excellent solvent resistance and durability to a printed matter on which an ink image has been formed by making the protective layer contain a fine particle, and to provide an ink ribbon. SOLUTION: The thermal transfer sheet 1 includes the protective layer 17, which contains fine particles S in a binder resin 17a, and an adhesive layer 19 which are laminated on a sheet base material 11 in that order. The particle diameter of the fine particles is 0.9-2.8 times the thickness t of the protective layer 17. The protective layer 17 contains 0.5-20 parts of the fine particle S based on 100 parts of the binder resin 17a. The binder resin 17a and the fine particle S have the equal refractive index.
