Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process by which an aromatic amine of formula I is produced by hydrogenating a nitroaromatic compound of formula II in the gas phase using a catalyst arranged as a stationary bed or a virtually stationary bed in a reactor. SOLUTION: The catalyst in the reactor is at least partially replaced continuously or at periodic intervals. In the process, at least 10% of the catalyst is replaced within a period of time of 20 days each from the start of the hydrogenation in the case of continuous replacement of the catalyst and within 20 days after the start of each operating period in the case of replacement of the catalyst at the periodic intervals.
