Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain excellent signal quality by optimally controlling an output intensity of an exciting light source. SOLUTION: An optical output device includes: an exciting light source 24 which outputs exciting light to a rare-earth added optical fiber amplifier 56, which is provided on an optical transmission line 50 and amplifies an optical signal and includes rare earth added to an optical fiber; and a control section 10 for controlling an output intensity of the exciting light source 24 on the basis of an intensity of light having a wavelength corresponding to an energy level of rare earth in the optical fiber, of the light amplified by the rare-earth added optical fiber amplifier 56. In order to suppress oscillation of the optical signal, the output intensity of the exciting light source 24 is controlled on the basis of the intensity of light having the wavelength corresponding to the energy level of rare earth in the optical fiber, thereby obtaining excellent signal quality.
