Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent supply of a designated amount or more of output power without switching off a high-pressure discharge lamp in spite of a large difference of positive/negative polarities of load voltage at the time of abnormal lighting caused by half-wave discharge of the high-pressure discharge lamp. SOLUTION: In a high-pressure discharge lamp-lighting device, a control circuit 2 for controlling a power supply circuit 1 supplying rectangular-wave AC power to a high-pressure discharge lamp DL by making power conversion of a DC power source Vdc has: a load voltage detection means 21 for detecting load voltage of the positive/negative polarities applied to the high-pressure discharge lamp DL; a comparison selection means 24 for selecting at least either the positive or the negative polarity by comparing load voltage of the detected positive/negative polarities; and a control means 23 for reflecting load voltage of the polarity selected by the comparison selection means 24 to the control of load current for one period after a period detecting load voltage of the positive/negative polarities.
