Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wavelength dispersion compensator for compensating optical loss which may be generated during wavelength dispersion compensation and for achieving efficient space saving. SOLUTION: In the wavelength dispersion compensator, a wavelength dispersion compensation part 2 is connected between an input port IN and an output port OUT through an optical circulator 1. The wavelength dispersion compensation part 2 includes an optical path 21 in which rare earth ions are doped and a grating part 22 formed along the optical path 21. Excitation light output from an excitation part 3 is supplied to the optical path 21. Since signal light input to one end of the optical path 21 through the optical circulator 1 is propagated while being amplified in the optical path 21, reflected by the grating part 22 and returned to one end of the optical path 21, thereby wavelength dispersion compensation and optical loss compensation are simultaneously performed.
