Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyester film capable of exhibiting excellent electromagnetic transducing characteristics even when being used for a base film of a data storage having ≥0.8 TB storage capacity. SOLUTION: In a support for a magnetic recording medium used for a data storage having ≥0.8 TB storage capacity, wherein a layer (M-layer) comprising metals or a metal based inorganic compound is provided on at least a magnetic layer forming side surface of a biaxially oriented polyester film layer (F-layer), the magnetic layer forming side surface of the F-layer has ≤800/100 cm2coarse protrusions measured by interference of light having 260 nm wavelength and the M-layer has 5 to 130 nm thickness.
