SOLUTION: This exhaust emission control device for the engine 1 includes: an oxidation catalyst 31; a CO conversion-rate calculation part 42 calculating the rate of CO conversion of the oxidation catalyst 31; an EGR passage 6 recirculating part of exhaust gas from the engine 1 into the intake pipe 2 of the engine 1; and an EGR control part 41 controlling the recirculation of exhaust gas through the EGR passage 6 based on the rate of CO conversion calculated by the CO conversion rate calculation part 42.
