Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a combustion control device and a combustion control method for a diesel engine capable of increasing the operating efficiency of the diesel engine while suppressing the occurrence of noise and soot when the combustion mode is changed. SOLUTION: In this combustion control method, an ECU 47 reciprocates the combustion mode of a diesel engine 1 between the diffuse combustion mode and a premixed combustion mode according to engine load, and controls the fuel injection amount so that a pilot injection amount in the premixed combustion mode is larger than the pilot injection amount in the diffuse combustion mode. When the combustion mode is changed from the diffuse combustion mode to the premixed combustion mode, the ECU 47 reduces the fuel injection amount to the pilot injection amount in the premixed combustion mode after gradually increasing the fuel injection amount until the pilot injection amount is increased over the pilot injection amount in the premixed combustion mode.
