Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively further reduce the discharged amount of NOx while improving a fuel efficiency. SOLUTION: In this engine comprising superchargers (25, 30) for pressurizing suction air and an injector 10 for injecting a fuel directly into a combustion chamber 5, the excess coefficient λ against a theoretical air-fuel ratio at least when the engine is warm is set to two or more in all areas of engine load, combustion by a compressed self-ignition is performed in the low load area of the engine, and the excess coefficient λ is maintained at two or more since the supercharged amount by the superchargers (25, 30) is increased according to an increase in load in the high load area of the engine.
