MOVING IMAGE ENCODER AND METHOD THEREFOR

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a moving image encoder for suppressing the generation of mosquito noise of reproducing images by reducing motion vector false detection occurrence in initial stage ME using reduced images and performing MC by an optimum motion vector. SOLUTION: In the moving image encoder, a preprocessing part 1 receives a moving image, a frame memory (SDRAM) 8 stores the image, a reduced image generation part 2 generates a plurality of reduced images by the presence/absence of a reduced image filter, a feature amount extraction processing part 3 extracts the feature amount of the image, an initial stage ME detection part 5 detects the initial stage ME on the basis of the source information of the initial stage ME computed by an initial stage ME pre-stage part 4, a vector-off detection part 6 compares the result vector with a peripheral vector and detects vector-off, and when the vector is off, the initial ME detection part 5 executes the initial stage ME in the other reduced image again, and a vector-off correction part 7 selects the optimum motion vector.
