SHOCK ABSORBING DEVICE FOR STEERING COLUMN

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shock absorbing device for a steering column, enabling to produce a stable shock absorbing load. SOLUTION: A first collar 44 of a capsule 27 is inserted through a collar insertion hole 52 of a mounting seat 30. An opening groove 40 is provided for opening the collar insertion hole 52 in a departing direction Y1. The position of a center C1 of a groove width W1 of the opening groove 40 at an inlet portion 40a of the opening groove 40 is offset from the position of a center C2 of the collar insertion hole 52 to an inside Z1. In absorbing shock, the plastic deformation amount of a second inside face 56 becomes zero. An extension part 59 is provided for increasing a length L1 of the arm of a moment load which works on an outside portion 53 at the initial stage of absorbing shock. COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT
