OPTICAL LINE TERMINATOR IN PON SYSTEM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical line terminator in a PON system configured to achieve electric-power saving, while enabling migration from GE-PON to 10G-EPON. SOLUTION: A station side optical line terminator (OLT) in a PON system is connected to a plurality of types of user home side optical network units (ONUs) 101, 102, 103 having different transmission rates via an optical splitter 106 through a single optical fiber. The OLT includes a plurality of types of transmitters and receivers that transmit signals to and receive signals from the plurality of types of user home side optical network units (ONUs) 101, 102, 103 at different transmission rates, respectively. The OLT includes furthermore a means for controlling power saving, which, based on a database 105 for registering authentication information for security of communications in the user home side optical network units (ONUs), and in addition transmission rate information of the user home side optical network units (ONUs), saves a power for power feeding to a transmitter and a receiver having transmission rate, of which registration is deleted, in the plurality of station side optical network units.
