LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY DEVICE AND ELECTRONIC APPARATUS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device that prevents poor display such as disclination to have successful contrast characteristics and to reduce costs, and to provide an electronic apparatus. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device of vertical orientation type includes: a first substrate on which a common electrode layer and an alignment layer are formed; a second substrate on which an active element layer for at least changing voltage and the alignment layer are formed; and a liquid crystal layer having negative dielectric anisotropy, which is sandwiched between the first and the second substrates. In the display device, wherein a pretilt angle given by the alignment layer of the first substrate is almost completely perpendicular and a pretilt angle given by the alignment layer of the second substrate has a fixed orientation angle, a cell gap of a non-display area is smaller than a cell gap of a display area.
