ELECTRODE WIRE FOR WIRE ELECTRIC DISCHARGE MACHINING

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrode wire for electric discharge machining capable of increasing machining precision and machining speed by restraining concentrated electric discharge in electric discharge machining. SOLUTION: The electrode wire 2 for wire electric discharge machining includes a core consisting of a steel wire 4 and a surface layer consisting of a brass layer 6. The mean number of crystal grains 7 from a surface of the brass layer 6 up to 50% of the depth of the brass layer 6 is 1.5 piece/μm or larger. Alternatively, the mean number of the crystal grains 7 from the surface of the brass layer 6 up to 25% of the depth of the brass layer 6 is 1.5 piece/μm or larger. Alternatively, as for this electrode wire 2 for wire electric discharge machining, the mean number of the crystal grains 7 in a longitudinal direction in the surface of the brass layer is 1.5 piece/μm or larger.
