PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide techniques to prevent the frequent operation mode changes due to the vibrations, etc. of a drive source, in an electric toothbrush where the operation mode automatically changes according to the brush position. SOLUTION: The electric toothbrush includes an electric toothbrush body provided with a brush drive source, a position sensor to detect the position of the electric toothbrush body, a control means to change the operation mode of the electric toothbrush depending on the result of comparison between a position value (S), i.e., the value calculated on the basis of the output from the position sensor, and a predetermined threshold value. A threshold value (A) used to determine the change from the operation mode 1 into the operation mode 2 is set up as a different value from a threshold value (A-α) used to determine the change from the mode 2 into the mode 1.
