SOLUTION: A method of monitoring a rotor blade of a turbine engine that includes a plurality of blades mounted to a rotor shaft, comprising steps of: (a) securing an RFID tag 160 that includes an antenna 162 to at least one of the rotor blades; (b) securing an RFID reader 166 on a stationary surface on the turbine engine in operational proximity to the RFID tag 160; and (c) during operation of the turbine engine, monitoring the RFID tag 160 with the RFID reader 166.
