Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an anti-theft device for a vehicle without a need of ID code registration in an authentication ECU in the early stage of production process of a vehicle, thereby achieving shared use of a production line with a vehicle equipped with a conventional anti-theft device. SOLUTION: An initial mode is set up for unlocking a steering wheel and activating power in accordance with push-button operation irrespective of the authentication result of an ID code. In a step S11 at the early stage of production process with the ID code not registered, power is activated based on the initial mode, so that operation checking for mechanical equipment and the like is carried out (step S11). Then, vehicle information and an authentication parameter for mutual checking between ECUs are registered in an engine ECU and a body ECU (step S12, 13). When the ID code and the authentication parameter are registered in an authentication ECU, the mode is switched from the initial mode to a normal mode based on the authentication of the ID code (step S14), to perform engine start-up inspection (step S15).
