SOLUTION: The user data area of an optical disk 12 is preliminarily partitioned into multiple zones, and by calculating density of a defective sector in each zone, it is decided that whether the density is higher than a predetermined threshold; and when the zone having the density higher than the threshold is read, the recording medium is read at speed higher than the usual read speed and is played back.
