Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording medium playback device and method for reducing increase in power consumption or increase in stable latency, even though access to alternative data occurs, to provide a recording medium playback method, to provide a recording medium playback program, and to provide a recording medium storing the recording medium playback program therein. SOLUTION: The user data area of an optical disk 12 is preliminarily partitioned into multiple zones, and by calculating density of a defective sector in each zone, it is decided that whether the density is higher than a predetermined threshold; and when the zone having the density higher than the threshold is read, the recording medium is read at speed higher than the usual read speed and is played back.
