Zusammenfassung: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a heat transport loss by efficiently decompressing and boiling a liquid film of a heating part inner surface. SOLUTION: An external combustion engine is equipped with a tubular vessel 11 which is fluidly sealed with working medium 12 in a fluid state, with a heating part 11a which is formed in one end side part of the vessel 11 to heat and vaporize a part of the working medium 12 in a liquid state, a cooling part 11b which is formed in the other end side part from the heating part 11a in the vessel 11 and cools to liquefy vapor of the working liquid 12 vaporized in the heating part 11a, and an output part 15 which communicates with the other end of the vessel 11 and which converts the displacement of the working liquid 12 in a fluid state which is produced by volumetric variation in the vapor into mechanical energy to output the energy. The heating part 11a has a liquid film thickness adjustment structure which adjusts the thickness of a liquid film remaining after vaporization of the working liquid 12. The liquid film thickness adjustment structure adjusts the thickness of a liquid film so as to increase the liquid film thickness in a portion on an opposite side to the cooling part 11b of the heating part 11a.
