DRIVING SUPPORT DEVICE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a driving support device which attains a smooth merging, while suppressing vehicles traveling on a lane from approaching too close, when a merging vehicle merges on a traffic lane. SOLUTION: The driving support device M is provided with a reference vehicle setting section 11 and a traveling state acquiring section 12 and a traveling support section 13. The traveling states of a reference vehicle set by the reference vehicle setting section 11, a first preceding vehicle located in the front immediate vicinity of the reference vehicle, a first following vehicle located in the rear immediate vicinity of the reference vehicle, and a second preceding vehicle located ahead the first preceding vehicle or a second, following vehicle located behind the first following vehicle, are acquired by a traveling state acquiring section 12. Traveling of the merging vehicle is supported by the traveling support section 13, based on those traveling states so that smooth merging can be attained, while the vehicles traveling on a traffic lane is suppressed from mutually approaching too close.
