Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing 1,4-diacetoxybutane in an improved yield without anxiety of clogging and contamination in higher efficiency by hydrogenating 1,4-diacetoxy-2-butene with suppressing amount of a by-product such as butyl acetate etc., formed without including a metal in a reaction solution. SOLUTION: The method for producing a hydrogenated ester includes previously bringing a catalyst containing a transition metal into contact with an inorganic base in hydrogenating an unsaturated ester in the presence of the catalyst to produce a corresponding hydrogenated ester.
