Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the problem of alignment between an encoder scale and a photodetector by forming an encoder to have a single-track constitution. SOLUTION: A reflection type optical encoder 10 includes a single-track type photodetector 48 and a code scale 30. The single-track type photodetector 48 includes a common axis 47 and is constituted of photodetectors A' and B' 24 for A and B data and photodetectors 20a and 20b for index channels I and I'. The code scale 30 includes an index and a data strip 31 and 33.
