Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a perpendicular magnetic recording head which has an excellent recording property by properly designing the shapes and materials of a main pole and trailing shield. SOLUTION: The perpendicular magnetic recording head satisfies the following expression: TScharge/MPcharge≥1.0; wherein MPcharge=Bs-mp×ΔMPL for the MPcharge corresponds to the magnetic charge in the TGD area of the main pole in the Apex cross-section, and TScharge=Bs-ts×min(TH, TGD) for the TScharge corresponds to the magnetic charge in the area obtained by projecting in parallel the main pole within the TGD area to the trailing shield in the Apex cross-section. In the above, Bs-mp represents saturated magnetic flux density of the main pole, Bs-ts represents the saturated magnetic flux density of the trailing shield, ΔMPL represents the tapered amount of the main pole in the thickness direction, TGD represents the main pole length between its floating position and the rear end of the narrowed area in the height direction, TH represents the trailing shield height, and min(TH, TGD) represents the smaller one of either TH or TGD.
