Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve a production yield, and to achieve reduction in size, in an optical device or an optical modulator including a polarization combining means. SOLUTION: The optical modulator 1 includes: first and second optical modulators (LN (LiNbO3) optical modulators 101-104) formed on a substrate; a polarization rotation part 107 rotating at least one polarized wave of light modulated by the first and second optical modulators; and a polarization combining element 110 provided outside the substrate, combining the modulated light wherein the polarized waves are rotated by the polarization rotation part 107.
