Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel cell wherein stable power generating performance of the fuel cell is maintained by suppressing desiccation of an electrolyte film. SOLUTION: This fuel cell includes an anode electrode and a cathode electrode on both sides of an electrolyte film. The anode electrode and the cathode electrode include catalyst layers and diffusion layers, and the diffusion layer includes a base material and a water repellent layer provided between the base material and the catalyst layer. The steam diffusion coefficient n( : porosity, n: tortuosity) of the water repellent layer of the cathode electrode is not less than 0.01, and the steam diffusion coefficient nof the water repellent layer of the anode electrode is not more than the steam diffusion coefficient of the water repellent layer of the cathode electrode.
