Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic encoder capable of detecting a moving direction (a rotating direction) by a single bridge circuit. SOLUTION: The magnetic encoder 1 is characterized in constitution that a center-to-center distance T1 between each first magnetic resistance effect element 5a and each second magnetic resistance effect element 5b is different from an integer multiple of a magnetic pole pitch λ and a relative moving distance for maintaining the saturation state of a free magnetic layer differs between when an outer magnetic field H1 is applied and when an outer magnetic field H2 is applied. Accordingly, since an output waveform in a CW and an output waveform in a CCW are different from each other, it is possible to detect a moving direction (a rotating direction) even by a single bridge circuit.
