Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid discharge device having a recovery mechanism structured so as to easily prevent contamination on a discharge surface by reducing residual ink even when a target structure has step portions. SOLUTION: In the liquid discharge device wherein a protective cover member 150 is provided on the nozzle discharge surface 34n of a liquid discharge head having a nozzle discharging droplets, the performance recovery mechanism 81 of the liquid discharge head is provided with a first ink removal means 160 capable of ink removal for the entire area of the ink discharge surface 34n and a second removal means 161 capable of ink removal for the inside periphery portion of the opening of the head discharge surface cover member. The first and second ink removal means set their wiping directions in the same direction or in the straight direction with respect to the ink discharge surface 34n. COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT
