Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a backlight unit capable of attaining excellent display quality, and a liquid crystal display device having the backlight unit. SOLUTION: The backlight unit has a light source 51, a reflective sheet 10, a light guide plate 20, an air space 30 and a diffusion plate 40, wherein the reflective sheet 10, the light guide plate 20, the air space 30 and the diffusion plate 40 are piled up, in this order. The light source 51 is configured to arrange individual light sources, having different spectra or a different quantity of light-emission in the vicinity of the incident plane 23 of the light guide plate 20, and dispersed dots 22 are arranged on the plane of the light guide plate facing the reflective sheet 10 so as to extract the light transmitted through the light guide plate 20 to a reflective sheet 10 side.
