Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display element preventing a segment electrode in an off-state from being viewed from an oblique direction. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display element comprises: a pair of glass substrates arranged facing each other; transparent electrode patterns formed on each of the facing surfaces of the pair of substrates; film constitutions including alignment films, formed on the substrates so as to cover transparent electrodes; a twisted nematic liquid crystal layer which is held between the pair of substrates and has a retardation value of 2.5 to 3 μm; and a pair of polarizing plates in which the polarization axes are parallel to each other.
