Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader capable of reliably suppressing an inclination state of a carriage with a simple structure when carrying one side of the carriage supporting a read means for traveling. SOLUTION: The carriage 20 for supporting the read means is mounted freely movably while abutting on a guide shaft 22, and is moved in a vertical scanning direction X. An energization means 30 for energizing the carriage 20 in a separation direction to the guide shaft 22 is mounted to the carriage 20 to prevent a wobble of the carriage 20. The energization means 30 includes: a contact member 31 which is so provided on the carriage 20 that the contact member 31 is movable while contacting with the guide shaft 22; and an elastic member 32 which energizes the contact member 31 to press it to the guide shaft 22.
