Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an illumination device capable of restraining deviation of a discharge lamp from a lamp holder. SOLUTION: The discharge lamp 3 of a backlight held by a lamp holder 2 fitted to a case 1 is provided with a glass bulb 31, a lead wire 331 sealed at an end part of the glass bulb 31, and a base 34 connected with the lead wire 331. The base 34 has a slit 342 as an insertion-coupling part, while the lamp holder 2 has a protruded part 221 as an insertion-coupled part, and the discharge lamp 3 is held by the lamp holder 2 with the slit 342 and the protruded part 221 in an insertion-coupled state.
