ENGINE VARIABLE VALVE DEVICE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device surely preventing interference of an intake valve and a piston even if an incorrect instruction is output causing valve timing which is not used in control. SOLUTION: This variable valve device includes a lift-operation angle variable mechanism 1 and a phase variable mechanism 21. A first stopper 36A and a second stopper 39 are provided integrally with the phase variable mechanism 21 and the lift-operation angle variable mechanism 1 respectively. The first stopper 36A moves closer to the second stopper 39 as the phase of a lift center angle advances, and the second stopper 39 moves closer to the first stopper 36A as a lift-operation angle gets larger. In any combination of the phase of the lift center angle and lift-operation angle, positions and shapes of the two stoppers 36A, 39 are set to make the two stoppers 36A, 39 abut on each other before at least one of an intake and an exhaust valve interferes with a piston.
