SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus includes: an imaging device 221 for outputting a subject image as image data; an image processing circuit 257 for detecting the face of a subject; a phase difference AF sensor 241, a contrast AF circuit 253 and the like for detecting a focal point of the subject. The length and width or aspect ratio of an image data output area of the imaging device 221 is controlled in accordance with the positions or the arrangement of subject faces, the positions or the arrangement of focal points, and the like.
