Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a phosphorus-containing compound with smaller steric hindrance, and to provide a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: The phosphorus-containing compound is represented by formula (I) (wherein, R1, R2, R3and R4are each independently H, halogen atom, 1-8C alkyl, haloalkyl or alkoxy). The phosphorus-containing compound can prevent the phosphorus-containing heterocyclic compound molecule from exhibiting steric hindrance to the hydroxy group through utilizing the bond between the 4,4'-dihydroxy biphenol groups and the phosphorus atom, which enables the succeeding reactions' reactivity to be improved.
