Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a backlight device reducing a steep brightness change in a boundary portion between adjoining split regions without increasing the load on a driving system, and to provide a display mounted with the backlight device, electronic equipment, and a method for driving the backlight. SOLUTION: A block brightness value calculating section 51 calculates a brightness value in each of 40 section light source blocks 6, that is, of each section light source block 6, based on a brightness signal detected by a brightness signal detecting circuit. A brightness value calculating section 52 calculates a brightness value of each light source 5B, which is a light source except for a representative light source and disposed around the representative light source 5A, based on the calculated representative brightness value. A whole brightness value output section 53 outputs the data of the representative brightness of the calculated representative light source 5A and the data of whole brightness values of the respective calculated light sources 5B to a backlight driving section 10.
