Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide fine carbon fiber which exhibits excellent dispersibility when mixed with a matrix, can be readily oriented by means of an external force, and to provide a composite using the fiber. SOLUTION: The linear fine carbon fiber is provided, wherein each fiber includes a hollow space, and has an outer diameter of 1 to 1,000 nm, an aspect ratio of 5 to 1,000, and a BET specific surface area of 2 to 2,000 m2/g, wherein the average interlayer distance d002of (002) faces by an X-ray diffraction method is 0.345 nm or less, and the ratio of the peak height (Id) of the band 1,341 to 1,349 cm-1in a Raman scattering spectrum to that of the peak height (Ig) of the band 1,570 to 1,578 cm-1(Id/Ig) is 0.1 to 2, and has a linearity of fiber with a bending angle of 30° or less with respect to the longitudinal direction of the fiber. The fine carbon fiber has an 1×10-4or more of the anisotropic magnetic susceptibility measured by the suspension method, and the composite material using the same is provided.
