BALL JOINT AND METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a ball joint and a method for manufacturing the same wherein in a housing made of a light metal, a groove for a cover is precisely plastically processed in a short time, and the groove is kept clean and free of stain in the forming process of the groove. SOLUTION: In the housing 130 for structuring the ball joint 100, a cover groove 134 is formed in order to attach a dust cover 150. The cover groove 134 is plastically processed with a punch 200 and a regulatory die 300 of a press. The punch 200 having a flat press-face 201 is so held that the axis of the punch 200 is inclined with the axis of the internal chamber of the housing 130 set on the press. The regulatory die 300 is installed in a state in which the part for forming the cover groove 134 in the outer peripheral part of the housing 130 is held by pinching. In the press, while the inclined punch 200 is being rotated, it is pressed against the end face of an opening 132 to deform the part plastically. COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT
