Zusammenfassung: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optically active compound that has high helical induction power, and attains a necessary helical pitch length without largely impairing physical properties and optical properties of a liquid crystal composition by addition to the liquid crystal composition. SOLUTION: The polymerizable optically active imide compound is represented by general formula (I). The compound wherein both X3and X4are -CO- in the general formula (I); the compound wherein both ring A2and ring A3are each a naphthalene ring; the compound wherein ring A1, A2, A3and A4are all benzene rings; the compound wherein both M1and M2are each a hydrogen atom; and the compound wherein ring A1and ring A4and ring A2and ring A3are each the same ring, M1and M2, X1and X6, X2and X5and X3and X6are each the same group and n and m are each the same number, are preferable as the polymerizable optically active imide compound.
