Zusammenfassung: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an outer ring for a hub unit, which is subjected to surface hardening in a shorter time than conventional one with less distortion than conventional one. SOLUTION: On the inner peripheral face of the outer ring for the hub unit in an approximately cylindrical shape, a raceway surface 1 and a raceway surface 2 are provided as travelling paths for spherical rolling elements 3 to roll. The raceway surface 1 and the raceway surface 2 each have a circular cross section shaped almost the same as the outer peripheral face of the rolling element 3, and they has slide contact with the rolling elements 3. The outer ring is subjected to high frequency hardening in a range from a shoulder portion 12 to a bottom portion 13 of the raceway surface 1, namely, on rolling element supporting faces to which the load of the rolling elements are actually applied.
