Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transmission type liquid crystal display device reducing light quantity absorbed by not only a liquid crystal panel but also a color filter and achieving further reduction of power consumption. SOLUTION: The transmission type liquid crystal display device includes a liquid crystal panel 15 where one pixel is divided into four sub-pixels of an RGBW, a white active backlight 17 capable of controlling luminescent brightness, a gradation correcting section 10 for reducing the signal value of an input RGB signal and converting it into an RGB signal after gradation correction, a color saturation/brightness reducing section 11 for reducing the color saturation and brightness of the RGB signal after gradation correction and converting the RGB signal after gradation correction into an RGB signal after color saturation/brightness reduction, a γ correcting section 12 for applying γ correction to the RGB signal after color saturation/brightness reduction and converting it into an RGB signal after γ correction, and an output signal generating section 13 for generating a transmittance signal of a sub-pixel of each of R, G, B and W in each pixel of the liquid crystal panel 15 from the RGB signal after γ correction, and calculating a backlight value in the white active backlight 17.
