APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR CORRECTING DISTORTION OF OPTICAL SYSTEM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical system distortion correcting method capable of correcting optical distortion without depending on trial-and-error parameter adjustments. SOLUTION: The optical system distortion correcting method includes a step for setting the relation between a point D (Xd, Yd) in a collected image and true projection coordinates U (Xu, Yu) as a polynomial of two variables Xd and Yd; a step for photographing a reference object having a group of marks having a number equal to (N+1)(N+2) or greater when the degree of the polynomial of the two variables is N and having previously known position coordinates (Xui, Yui) (wherein, i=1, ..., N); and a step for determining coefficients of the polynomial of the two variables by the calculus of variations on the basis of coordinates (Xdi, Ydi) and the position coordinates (Xui, Yui) of the group of marks in a reference image acquired by the photographing.
