Zusammenfassung: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a NOx removal catalyst suppressing lowering of the NOx removal performance by sulfur components and efficiently removing NOx, even in a case of operation ranging from a low temperature region to a middle temperature region like in a diesel engine. SOLUTION: The NOx removal catalyst used for removing NOx in exhaust gas discharged from an internal combustion engine controlled in the lean and rich combustion is provided, wherein the catalyst is carried on a carrier, has a first catalyst layer containing a noble metal including at least platinum as a principal component and rhodium as a sub-component, cerium-based material, and a lanthanide material; NOx in the exhaust gas is oxidized and adsorbed in the first catalyst layer in the lean state; NOx oxidized and adsorbed to the first catalyst layer in the lean state is converted into nitrogen and water by a reducing component present near the first catalyst layer in a rich state.
