Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that a satisfactory protective layer cannot be obtained because moisture permeates into an internal part of a recording medium or the protective layer includes a high frictional coefficient in a conventional protective layer. SOLUTION: In a thin film type magnetic recording medium wherein a magnetic layer made of a ferromagnetic metal material is formed on a non-magnetic supporting body and a protective layer made of diamond like carbon (DLC) is formed on the magnetic layer, a fluorine compound used for a dry process for covering the surface of the protective layer formed on the surface of the magnetic layer includes the number of fluorine atoms 0.35 to 1.2 times as much as the number of carbon atoms and includes ≥2 nm thickness.
