Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing a liquid crystal device by controlling characteristics of an oriented film satisfactorily. SOLUTION: The method of manufacturing the liquid crystal device provided with a liquid crystal layer held between a pair of substrates opposed to each other, and an oriented film disposed between at least one of the substrates and the liquid crystal layer, includes: a process for forming an inorganic oriented film 15 on the one of the substrates; a first covering process for forming a first organic film randomly covering a surface of the inorganic oriented film 15 with a predetermined coverage factor smaller than 1 by using a first silane-coupling agent; and a second covering process for forming a second organic film covering the parts not covered with the first organic film on the surface by using a second silane-coupling agent having a carbon number different from that of the first silane-coupling agent after the first covering process, thereby forming an oriented film 13 composed of the first organic film, the second organic film, and the inorganic oriented film.
