Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an optically pure (S)-3-hydroxypyrrolidine. SOLUTION: Provided is a method for directly producing an optically and chemically pure (S)-3-hydroxypyrrolidine by reacting a 4-amino-(S)-2-hydroxybutyric acid ester salt in the presence of a reducing agent. The reducing agent is selected from the group consisting of boranes, sodium borohydride, lithium triethylborohydride and lithium aluminum hydride.
