Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a long-life crosslinked polyethylene pipe. SOLUTION: A pipe or a tube of crosslinked polyethylene ("PEX") containing carbon black of less than 2 wt.% provides improved resistance to oxidants such as chlorine and hypochlorous acid in water. The pipe may be protected with a thin tubular core (inner layer) of a high density polyethylene or a chlorinated polyethylene. The pipe may optionally have an oxygen barrier layer such as poly(ethylene-co-vinyl alcohol) ("EVOH") continuously disposed radially outward from the carbon-containing PEX layer.
