Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high cellulose type coated electrode for arc welding, a coated electrode that reduces generation of short circuit in initial layer root pass welding, that has excellent welding workability in downward welding, and that hardly produces defects in a weld zone, enabling a weld metal with a superior mechanical property to be obtained. SOLUTION: In the high cellulose type electrode having a coating agent on the outer periphery of a soft steel core wire, the coating agent contains by mass% in its total mass: 0.1-10% MgO, 5-20% iron oxide, 5-15% TiO2, 5-15% Fe, 0.5-5.0% carbonate compound (in terms of CO2), 0.3-5.0% Al2O3, 0.3-5.0% ZrO2, and 20-40% cellulose; further containing 10-30% water glass, silica mineral, metal Si or Si alloy in terms of SiO2; and still further containing 2-10% Mn; wherein the coating ratio of the coating agent on the core wire is 12-21% for the total mass of the electrode.
